The Story... «He was a drunkard who smoked three packs a day. He yelled obscenities at world-famous stars and let underaged girls sing about lollipops with anise filling. He wrote a novel about a man who broke toxic winds and recorded the most scandalous number of all times which was banned by the Vatican. Someone like that surely deserves a tribute! That man is Serge Gainsbourg (1928-1991), one of Europe’s most influential songwriters, together with the B’s in ABBA. A man with a treasure trove of great songs full of double entendres and made-up words, which he sang himself, but very often gave to the most beautiful women.
When Eddy De Clercq was asked to choose a Gainsbourg original to cover, for the «GainsNord» compilation by Guuzbourg, also responsible for «Filles Fragiles», he didn’t have to look far for a suitable song. Eddy choose «Sea Sex & Sun», since this was one of his favourite French Disco songs of the 70’s. The song was now arranged as a Bossa Nova by guitarist Nelson Latif and Eddy went looking for a the right singer, hopefully one who could contribute to the sensual slightly erotic mood of the song. That singer was found when Eddy called Jovanna, one of his Disco friends he used to hang out with in the 70’s. She sings beautifully laidback and has the right, slightly decadent personality that fits the Gainsbourg song like a glove.» |
